Characteristics
Yellow bread (Laetiporus sulphureus (Bull.) Murrill) is an edible mushroom from the Polyporaceae family. The caps are yellow to yellow-orange in color, with an irregularly bent, wavy edge. Several caps of an irregular fan shape grow one above the other, forming a fruiting body up to 50 cm wide and weighing up to 20 kg. The tubes are yellow, short, the holes are small, round, and a yellowish liquid is released from them. The flesh is white to yellow, soft, juicy, with a pleasant smell, later it becomes dry, hard and tough. Spores are egg-shaped, smooth, the poison is white.
Habitat fungi
It grows from spring to late fall on living deciduous trees and fruit trees (willow, cherry, plum, etc.), causing them to decay.
Usage
It is an edible mushroom when it is young, of very good quality. Older mushrooms are woody and not suitable for eating.
